Why pray?

The Bible mentions prayer over 547 times throughout Scripture — one of the most repeated instructions God gives us, apart from the commandments themselves.

Jesus told us to ask. The early church gathered in prayer. Believers are called to pray for one another constantly. So naturally, I started wondering: why?

If God already knows everything, why does He want us to ask? Truthfully, I didn’t fully grasp the power of this before holding TikTok prayer lives. Before that, I thought prayer was mostly about asking God for things.

What I’ve witnessed instead is that people often leave feeling lighter before their external circumstances have even changed. I’ve watched people receive encouragement from complete strangers.
